As an example, let\u2019s take the process of learning a new skill.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve been reading this blog, you know that I play <a href=\"https:\/\/www.powersoccerusa.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">power wheelchair soccer<\/a>. I started in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>The first couple years were difficult because I wasn\u2019t developing as fast as I thought I should.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a quick learner, and within the first two or three years of playing, I thought I understood the basic concepts. However, my understanding wasn\u2019t translating into my performance.<\/p>\n<p>I thought I knew what I was doing, but looking back, I realize I had no clue. It wasn\u2019t until 2014 \u2013 five years later \u2013 when I finally understood what was going on.<\/p>\n<p>My teammates were some of the best players in the world and they gave me an understanding of the sport.<\/p>\n<p>Five years seems like an eternity, especially today.<\/p>\n<p>When <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.suchavoice.com\/tonyjacksonvo\/2020\/04\/20\/small-steps-small-victories\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">going through the process<\/a> of learning, we want results immediately. This still holds true for me.<\/p>\n<p>However, when I try to rush the process, the process always reminds me who\u2019s in charge.<\/p>\n<p>The same is true now for my voice over journey. I\u2019m constantly reminded that growth and development take time.<\/p>\n<p>During my individual coaching sessions, I thought I understood the concepts, but when I go back and listen to all my older recordings, I realize that I may have \u201cunderstood\u201c, but I needed to practice and develop.<\/p>\n<p>Remember, life is a marathon, not a sprint.
