Lie to yourself. Tell yourself you’re good enough, even if you don’t really believe it.
There are reasons that the phrases “fake it ‘til you make it,” and “failing upward” exist. It’s because persistence in the face of adversity and failure will eventually pay off.
The truth is that none of us are truly 100% prepared to take on new challenges in our life.
If you have children, were you completely ready to be a parent? Were you totally prepared for that new job you took? Have you ever packed all of your things and moved to a new location where you have never been?
Those who dive into something not 100% prepared – which is nearly everyone – often do so understanding that they are going to make mistakes along the way and that they are going to learn from them.
To take the next step in any process, sometimes you have to lie to yourself. Say that you are ready. Tell yourself that you are good enough.
Even if you don’t believe it.
Because here’s what happens. You start taking steps. You make mistakes, but you learn from these mistakes. Then you take more steps. You repeat this process until you get to where you want to be.
It’s going to be ugly sometimes. However, if you keep going, you will eventually reach your goal.
Although it’s generally not a good idea to tell a lie, there are times when it can be beneficial.
So go ahead…lie to yourself. Tell yourself you’re good enough.
Eventually, you will be.
