Here’s a good trick to save money on your website. Everyone will need a domain name and website to serve as their billboard. As students of Such A Voice, we get a FREE website to market our talents. While it’s definitely a good starting point on its own, here’s a way to add a little more branding and professionalism to your site. Keep in mind this was done through GoDaddy, but whichever service you use to register your domain will have similar options.
What we’re going to do is use URL forwarding with masking to use your custom URL on your Such A Voice website. The end result will look like you’re on “myvoiceoverwebsite.com,” but you’ll really be on “suchavoice.com/yourcustomwebsite.”
After you’ve chosen and purchased your fancy new domain name, follow these steps:
- Log in and go to your domain
- Scroll to the bottom and click, “Manage DNS”
- Scroll to the bottom and click “Forwarding”
- Copy/paste your SAV website URL and select the “Forward with Masking” button (Don’t forget to select “https://)
- Save money on webhosting until you’re ready to build your own site
