R.I.P David Bowie (1947-2016)

We all heard the devastating and surprising news that British Pop icon David Bowie passed away after battling 18 months with cancer. Bowie leaves behind a career that many recording artists dream they could have. A music career which spanned over 5 decades. That was followed up with a decent acting career appearing in movies such as “Zoolander” starring Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell and, of course, his most recognizable role in the 1980s cult film, “Labyrinth”. He also was recognized for being able to reinvent himself fashionably. His fashion on-stage has influenced some of today’s pop stars including Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.

But did you know, David Bowie also did voice acting? Most people probably don’t know this because his voice acting career is a very short one. He only lent his voice in an acting sense for only 3 projects. But believe it or not, he has worked on some recognizable projects and worked with some well-known names.

Spongebob Squarepants

Lord Royal Highness

Unforntunately, I can not embed this video onto the post because it is not from YouTube, but click the picture to watch the video. It doesn’t really sound like David Bowie, but try to picture David Bowie talking after sucking helium. Or if you have audio editing software like Adobe Audition, you can probably take one of the many songs you have and add a pitch stretch effect on it.

Arthur and the Invisibles

Maltazard

This 2006 animation movie features a lot of well-known names. This French adventure turned English movie features a cast which also stars Freddie Highmore, Mia Farrow, Madonna, Jimmy Fallon, Robert DeNiro, Harvey Keitel, and Snoop Dog. Skip to 1:30 to hear Bowie’s voice.

Omikron: Nomad Soul

Boz and The Dreamers

Bowie has two roles in this 1999 game which was available for PC and Sega Dreamcast. It was planned to also be available for PS One and PS2, but due to poor sales with the Sega Dreamcast version, they were canceled. The character in this video is Boz, a mystical being that exists in a purely electronic form on the computer networks of Omikron.

The second video is the concert sequence for his second role; a band called “The Dreamers”.

While his voice-over career was not one to remember, we do remember the impact he has made in music, pop culture and the lives of many around the world. R.I.P. Ziggy Stardust. You will truly be missed.
